Windermere in Orange County was established in 1898 but it wasn’t until 1925 that it was chartered. It has the Butler Chain of Lakes which make for one of the most picturesque towns in Florida. When visiting Windermere one will note many unpaved roads, this is done in order to protect the lakes from the runoff and chemical pollutions coming from roads. The ecosystem is fragile and much effort is extended to protect it. Some non-native plants like Hydilla have been introduced to the lake by aquarium owners and now pose issues with strangling out the natural vegetations.
